A few Effortless Ways to Style your Linens & a Simple Bread Bag How To
Linen’s timeless beauty truly lies in its effortless simplicity and charming versatility. Whether it's elegantly gracing your kitchen countertops, enhancing the warm and inviting atmosphere in the dining room, or being creatively repurposed for an exciting DIY project, a few thoughtfully chosen linen pieces can beautifully transform your entire space into a cozy retreat that feels like home.
Small Touches, Big Impact: Styling Linen in Everyday Life
Linen is the perfect blend of beauty and function, bringing warmth and effortless charm to your home.
Whether in the kitchen, dining space, or storage, here are some simple ways to style your linens for a cozy yet refined look.
In the Kitchen
Drape with Intention – Instead of folding and tucking towels away, drape them casually over a farmhouse sink, oven handle, or open shelving. This adds texture and warmth while keeping essentials handy.
Match Your Mood – Choose linens in soft pastels for a fresh, airy feel or deep, rich hues for a cozy, dramatic look that shifts with the seasons.
Use Tea Towels as Décor – Frame a beautifully patterned or embroidered linen tea towel as wall art for a unique, personal touch in your kitchen.
While Cooking
Make a Statement with an Apron – A linen apron instantly elevates your kitchen attire. Opt for a full-length apron for a classic, timeless look or a half-apron for a casual, bistro-style vibe.
Hang it with Style – Store aprons on a vintage-style hook or a rustic peg rail to keep them within reach while adding to the charm of your space.
Chef Style - Stick a corner of a hand towel in your back pocket to be able to wipe your hands off with ease!
At the Table
Layer for Dimension – Pair a linen table runner with complementary placemats or napkins to create a rich, layered tablescape. Even a simple meal feels special with this easy styling trick.
Add a Pop of Texture – Crinkled linen napkins tied loosely with twine or a sprig of rosemary create an inviting and organic aesthetic. Perfect for everyday dining or special gatherings.
Fold Creatively – Swap out traditional napkin folds for a casual drape over dinner plates or tuck them into a simple knot for an effortlessly chic table setting.
Storage with Style
Woven Baskets & Wooden Crates – Roll or neatly fold your favorite linen towels and store them in a woven basket or a vintage wooden crate for easy access and a touch of rustic charm.
Hang Tea Towels on Display – Use a ladder rack or a set of wall-mounted hooks to display your most beautiful linen towels in a way that’s both functional and stylish.
Repurpose Small Linens – Use a soft linen napkin or towel as a bread wrap for fresh loaves on the counter, giving your kitchen a cozy, artisanal feel.
DIY Idea: Linen Bread Bag 🍞
Looking for a simple and sustainable DIY project that adds a personal touch to your kitchen? Why not repurpose an old linen towel into a charming handmade bread bag? This delightful creation is the perfect way to keep your homemade loaves warm and fresh, while adding a dash of quirky style to your bread-baking routine. It’s super easy to do for all ages. My late mother taught me how to make items like this when I was 5 years old, just take caution with needles and kids.
What You’ll Need
✔ A linen tea towel or fabric scrap
✔ Needle & thread (or a sewing machine)
✔ A drawstring or twill tape, a few inches longer than your fabric
💡 Bonus: This also works great for storing fresh produce.
A Few Simple Steps
Fold the towel in half and sew along the side and bottom, leaving the top open. Any side works for this, if you’re using one of our towels I suggest leaving the side with the hanging loop as your top so that you can utilize it. I used white chalk & stitching on mine in the photos so you can see where to stitch.
Fold & pin the fabric over about an inch, essentially creating a small channel for the drawstring. Make sure your drawstring has an excess amount on each end so that there is room to play with tying it.
Stitch a straight hem across the fold so that it closes the channel, stopping halfway and leaving an inch or so un-hemmed to make the drawstring pull through easier.
Feed the drawstring through the channel. I find the easiest way is to make a small knot at the end of it and use a chopstick to feed it through like a giant needle.
Tie the drawstring together at the ends with a knot so you don’t lose them, pull to cinch, and voilà—you have a reusable, breathable bread bag!
